Reflection #8 Islam: Two Perspectives

Reflection #8 Islam: Two Perspectives

Find where Islamic religious beliefs intersect with current events. Research a Western news source on the story and summarize the article from that perspective, adding the article link to your OP. Then, using Google search, site: (country code) research the same story from an Islamic country's perspective, again, adding the web link to your site. Compare and contrast both articles, noting differences in actual facts, or the role that Islam played in the story.

Western View:

Both of these articles are about the plans of burning the holy book of the Islamic religion, Quran, on September 11th. First of all, some basic information of this event are mentioned in both of the articles such as the plan of burning Quran on September 11, demonstrations of Muslim people, and the announcement of the stoppage. However, there are many differences as well. First of all, in the article of Islamic country, a head of Iran’s Armed Forces Joint Chiefs of Staff Brigadier General Seyyed Masoud Jazayeri says that there is strong evidence that the September 11 incident was staged by the US government and their Israel agents. Also, this article criticizes U.S by saying that US is trying to cover up its crime by burning several hundred copies of Quran despite the global condemnation and outrage.
On the other hand, in the western view, it is said that Pastor terry Jones announced that he decided to cancel his plan because he made an agreement with Muslim leaders in New York City to move the location of a controversial center planned Islamic and mosque away. However, Imam Rauf, the leader of the proposed center, ignored this agreement. In the Islamic country’s article, this agreement is not even mentioned. In addition, this western article did not state the number of Quran which were going to be burned even though the other articles said it was several hundreds.
Therefore, there are also some differences in those 2 articles besides similarities and I found noting differences in actual facts as well. I felt that Muslim is not considered to be a good religion in western country by reading the articles. In addition, both articles are written in different perspectives. So, I get really different impressions in each article even though these are talking about the same event.
