Reflection Question #1

Reflection Question #1

According to Mircea Eliade religion has "not vanished without a trace; [it] has contributed toward making us what we are today and so, after all, [it] forms part of our own history". In what ways has religion contributed toward your personal history?

Even though I am an atheist, religion has affected my life in many ways. Firstly, I went to Christian kindergarten in Japan. The kindergarten did not force anyone to be a Christian, but it celebrated Christian related events such as Christmas and Easter. Also, I had been taught to always thank for everything I was given. So, what I have been taught there has affected my personality.

Now, I am attending a Christian school and learned more details about Christianity. I studied the history of that religion and read the Bible. I think that what the Bible says about morals is true and significant because it tells about what an individual should do as a human such as caring other people or should not do as a human such as hurting others. I am an atheist, but some of my thoughts are based on the religion, and I think that it is also one of the good ways to use religions to study our morals and answer to the mystery of life.
