Personal Commemoration- Reflection #7

Think of an event in your life- past, present or future. You are going to create a commemorative ritual for this event. First, describe the event and why it is important. Second, decide how long the commemoration will last. Then, create a phrase, a few sentences, or a poem that should be read during this commemoration. Last, describe some physical (tangible) action that is an appropriate way to remember/celebrate this event. You may want to include ritual clothing, food, or pilgrimage.
Due by beginning of school, Monday, Nov.29th.

I am going to create a commemoration of the day I came to Korea. This day is important to me because this event has changed my life significantly. After I graduated my elementary school, I moved to Korea. Soon, I entered Seoul Japanese School and spent time there for more than two years. Since it was a small school, each student was required to do responsible jobs and each role was very significant and worthwhile. There, I learned the difficulty and importance of leading people. On the other hand, I made really good friends there. After that, I came to this Seoul Foreign High School and learned many new things there as well. Through this school, I made foreign friends for the first time and I could widen my perspectives through being exposed to different cultures. In addition, I have many memories with my family in Korea. Therefore, I think the day I came to Korea is one of my important my turning point in my life and various events I experienced in my life in Korea will influence my future as well.
I want to commemorate this day with my family. This commemoration will be held at night when all my family members returned from their schools or job. We eat Korean food in order to remember about the life in Korea. Then, we will talk about our memories and significant events we had in Korea. We do not wear any specific clothing but we will see some visual stuff such as pictures or video together. Since I am going to leave my house and live by myself when I go to a college, Korea would be the last place I can spend time with my family. That makes my life in Korea more precise. In the commemoration, we say “We thank for the days we spent time together with my family, and we will not forget our precise memories we’d built in our minds”. As time goes on, it will be more difficult to spend time together with my family because my brother and sister might also live by their own when they get job in the future. I want to make this day not to only remember my experiences in Korea, but also to treasure time with my family.

The Morality of Greek Myths- Reflection #6

The Morality of Greek Myths- Reflection #6

Daedalus and Icarus
Daedalus was a great inventor and he was even trusted by the king of Crete. However, one day, Daedalus fell out of favor with the king Minos. Daedalus and his son, Icarus, were then put into the prison of highest tower. In the tower, Deadlus constructed wings from wax and feathers and escaped with his son. Daedalus warned his son not to fly too low or too high and just keep the moderate height. However, Icarus completely forgot Daedalus’s warning and flew too close to the sun. The sun melted his wings and Icarus fell into the sea and died.
I did narrator for the play, but I chose the picture of King Minos. The moral of this story is that one should listen carefully to the elders because they are wise. Although Daedalus warned Icarus, he ignored the warning. This myth answers the mystery of life of why people cannot fly with their bodies. I think that this is because people do not own their wings, and they are not supposed to fly. That is why Icarus fell into the sea. Some of the virtues of this story are royalty, and courage. Even though the King Minos put Daedalus and his son into the prison for small reason, Deadlus did not complain at all and just followed what the king said to him. However, at the same time, Daedalus had the courage to escape from the jail. I think that he did not want his son to live in jail forever. So, his kindness towards his son gave the courage to Daedalus.
